Strength conditioning bands are valuable tools for providing both positive and negative elastic resistance with powerlifting movements such as squats and bench presses. When resistance bands are looped to both ends of a barbell and to lower band pegs on a squat rack or bench press, the large rubber bands will increase in resistance as they are stretched, thus increasing the workload of the lift progressively from the bottom of the movement to the top of the movement. When utilized with upper band pegs on a power cage, the resistance stretch is increased on the downward movement, thus making the upward drive of a squat or bench press progressively easier from the bottom range of extension to the top of the movement and as muscles begin to fail.
